They laughed when I sat down at the piano

You would laugh at me if I sat down at the piano.

I always wanted to play an instrument.

I tried drums.

I tried piano.

I tried guitar.

I even sucked at playing the recorder in 4th grade.

For some reason, the musical part of my brain doesn’t work.

Playing an instrument is a monumental struggle for me.

When Tom Ruwitch suggested we read How to Write One Song: Loving the Things We Create and How They Love Us Back by Jeff Tweedy for this month’s Mastermind Book Club, my stomach started churning.

How could I learn to write a song?

Why would I want to learn how to write a song?

I suck at anything musical.

I’d be the laughing stock if I wrote a song and tried to play it on a piano.

This would take me out of my comfort zone.

Miles outside.

I accepted Tom’s challenge.

I’ll admit I had a lot of apprehensions as I started reading the book.

It took me a few chapters to get past my fears.
